The Department of Defense boasts over 100 active-duty dermatologists serving around the world in the US Army, Navy, Air Force, and Public Health Service.
Military Dermatologists have the honor of taking care of our active-duty and retired military members, as well as their families. They provide all medical dermatologic services including surgery, clinical dermatology, micrographic surgery and dermatologic oncology, dermatopathology, and laser and energy-based medicine.
While there are numerous locations where dermatologists in the military are stationed, there are three main programs where dermatologists are trained within the military – Walter Reed, San Antonio, and San Diego.
Finally, the reach of military dermatology does not stop when a physician leaves the service. The values, traditions, experiences and commitment to excellence are etched into each service member for a lifetime. Thousands of military physicians, and hundreds of military dermatologists continue to practice after their tours of duty or after retirement in the armed services. This cadre of physicians represents a bedrock of talent and professionalism that help to serve patients beyond their years of active-duty service.
